I'm a wife, a mother, a daughter, a teacher and a reader. Quite often I get asked the question, "What do you read?" So here is my answer.

The Boss Baby

Frazee, M. (2010). The boss baby. New York: Simon & Schuster.

The Boss Baby is an excellent book! I bought for my son because it was just a few dollars and had colorful artwork. I had no idea what the story was. Frazee creates a larger metaphor for new parents by comparing an infant to a CEO of a company.

This book is absolutely hilarious. Trust me; I definitely identify with the parents in this picture book. Especially holding meetings in the middle of the night.

The climax of the book is sweet with the boss saying his first words. Just like in real life, when the boss hits a milestone, all of the late nights and exhaustion seem worth it. But.. "He had to get back to the office ASAP. There was still a business to run here."

Obviously, Brody doesn't understand the plot of the book--he is only 8 months old after all. But I definitely think Brody relates to the protagonist of The Boss Baby. Frazee's book is one of those few picture books that are made for adults. It is humorous, relatable and heavily symbolic. And best of all, it's short, because when you're a new parent of a boss, you have no time to read. I wish more authors would write like picture books in this style.

Young children wouldn't understand the content of the book, but they would find it very funny. The Boss Baby is a must for new parents.
